TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I am Michael Ifeanyi Chukwuma also known as DJ Rex. I’m from delta state. I was born and bred in the north (maiduguri) where I had my primary & secondary education, then I moved down to Lagos to live with my mum. I attended Valley View University Ghana, where I studied information Technology (IT) in Ghana.
I later came back to Nigeria in year 2013 and started my Deejay career same year.

HOW DO YOU STARTED YOUR CAREER AS A DISK JOCKEY?
I was a student of NIIT college Port harcourt where I was studying java back in 2010, where I met a very good friend of mine who taught me how to use the Virtual deejay application back then .
Sincerely speaking, virtual deejay was like a start up for me back then . I see myself as an opportunist due to the great help my friend rendered to me. His name is TBlinks, today, he’s a very popular deejay now in Port Harcourt.
Therefore, I moved down to Lagos in order to acquire more skills in the game. I met a very talented deejay in Surulere back then, his name is deejay shankeemore, who really groomed me in management craft.
I got my first job in 2014 where I was playing for a strip club on the mainland called Martinos paint House.
Thereafter, I took over from an OG of mine who was also doing well in the Entertaiment industry, Deejay ultimate as he’s fondly called has been a good brother and friend to me.
So, it was destined. I was just being in the right place at the right time. I give all the glory to God.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE ENTERTAIMENT INDUSTRY, WHAT ARE YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGES SO FAR?

I have been in the Entertaiment industry for about 6 years now, and the challenges so far has always been the way deejays are been used without giving them appreciation for their job well done. Even sometimes, Deejays work without been paid.
The truth is, some popular Nigerian Deejays are still yet to be recorgnised and duly celebrated in the industry.
I feel there should be equal love and respect for all Entertainers. Appreciation for jobs well done shouldn’t be something we fight for.

WHERE WAS THE MOST LARGEST PLATFORM YOU EVER PERFORMED?

Yes, to the glory of God, I am currently the official deejay to so many organizations and platforms who have been a very big addition to my career so far.
I am the official deejay to – Sliverfox Gentlemen nightclub, Miss Tourism Nigeria, Mr Universe Nigeria, Men’s Fashion week Nigeria.
I still hope and pray to work with more bigger brands in the nearest future.

WHO ARE THE ARTISTES YOU WISH TO WORK WITH IN THE NEAREST FUTURE?

Well, I have a few already in my list. Such as Burna Boy, Victor AD, Sammy,Erigga, Oga Network,Lil Kesh, Naira Marley,Zlatan Ibile, Joe boy. Those are the beautifuI Artistes I wish to do music with in the nearest future.

WHAT IS YOUR FASHION SENSE?

Well, I have a great sense in fashion as I try to watch what and how I step out . Just like the popular sayings; Never know who you meet out there, the way one is dressed determines how one would be addressed. That’s the whole packaging for me as a deejay. Your dress sense has to be 100 percent.

IF YOU’RE NOT A DJ WHAT OTHER PROFESSION CAN YOU FIND YOURSELF?

I will probably be a gig behind a laptop somewhere or a producer. Those are the things I always wanted to do.

DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT OR BUSINESS YOU’RE CURRENTLY WORKING ON?

Well, I have a new hit song, “My babe ft Wilfresh”. Well, when I was doing that track, I was inspired by my situation at that moment. I was having relationship issues at that moment, it was just one of our moments with my real G Wilfresh. We actually talked at length and he advised me on some issues. Surprisingly, the electricity power was restored after sleeping in darkness for couple of weeks. We were so happy and hurriedly rushed to our mini studio to do the song. We call ourselves the Rasta Yutes. I love my brother so much. Wilfresh , he worked so hard on this track to make sure it was done successfully. And shoolayce in the other hand is a very creative person who cooked it up. And gradually, we begin to enlarge our musical skills and our fan base increases the more. Big kudos to my relentless manager, Seyi Taylor, My PA-Thompson and Chika. These people has been doing great jobs all the way. And of course, to my number one fan, my super mother, I love her so much . I pray she live to enjoy the fruits of her labor.
Aside that , I also have this business I have been working on as a side hustle, Midas Touch & Signatures. It’s a unisex saloon and a little boutique beside it.
It’s located in Ajah,
Sincerely speaking, It’s our first branch and God is doing great work.
Our cloths are mostly samples, that’s why we go by the brand name “signatures”. The skill and environment set for our salon is beyond expectations. We pray for bigger numbers of clients to patronize the brand.

DEFINE AN HUSTLER IN YOUR OWN WORDS

A Hustler is a Man or woman who goes against all odds under the rain and shine to make a living. In other words I can Call it a street entrepreneur.

WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT?

Making good music. I love beautiful sounds, it drives me, good music really serves as motivating and inspiring tools .

IF YOUR LIFE WERE TO BE MADE INTO A SONG, WHAT WOULD THE TITLE BE?

The Journey!! Life has been so challenging and to God be the glory, I succeed in every single stage no matter how difficult it may be.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR UP AND COMING DJ’S ?

You just have to believe in yourself and invest so much in yourself, because it’s always difficult for anyone to believe in you. People will only love you for how much you love what you are doing.
